Hajj is the single most powerful occasion for dua in a Muslim's entire life. You are a guest of Allah, standing in the holiest places on earth, wearing the garments that resemble your burial shroud — stripped of everything except your need for Him. Every dua you make during Hajj carries a weight that no other dua can match.

This guide gathers every essential supplication you need for the entire pilgrimage — from the moment you tie your Ihram to your final Farewell Tawaf. Each dua includes the original Arabic text, a phonetic transliteration, the English meaning, and the source reference. Bookmark this page, screenshot the duas, or print it — and pair it with our VR Hajj experience to hear each dua recited at the exact sacred location.

For a day-by-day breakdown of the rituals themselves, see our Hajj Step-by-Step Guide. For daily duas organized by date, visit Best Hajj Duas for Each Day.

1. The Power of Dua During Hajj

The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said: "The pilgrims performing Hajj and Umrah are guests of Allah. If they supplicate to Him, He answers them; and if they ask His forgiveness, He forgives them."Ibn Majah 2892

Hajj is not merely a physical journey — it is a spiritual audience with the Creator. The scholars identify several places and times during Hajj where dua is especially accepted:

  • The Day of Arafat — The single greatest day for dua in the Islamic calendar
  • During Tawaf — Especially between the Yemeni Corner and the Black Stone
  • At the Multazam — The area between the Black Stone and the door of the Kaaba
  • At Maqam Ibrahim — After the two rak'ahs following Tawaf
  • On the hills of Safa and Marwa — While facing the Kaaba
  • At Muzdalifah — At al-Mash'ar al-Haram after Fajr
  • After stoning the small and middle Jamarat — Standing and making lengthy dua
  • While drinking Zamzam water — "The water of Zamzam is for whatever purpose it is drunk" (Ibn Majah)

The Prophet (ﷺ) also said: "There is no day on which Allah frees more people from the Fire than the Day of Arafat. He draws near and then boasts about them to the angels, saying: 'What do these people want?'"Muslim 1348

Understanding these sacred moments transforms your Hajj from a series of physical movements into a deeply personal conversation with Allah. Prepare your dua list in advance — in the overwhelming emotion of the moment, you will forget what you wanted to ask for.

2. Talbiyah — The Call of the Pilgrim

The Talbiyah is the defining chant of Hajj. You begin reciting it the moment you enter Ihram at the Miqat and continue until you throw the first pebble at Jamarat al-Aqabah on the 10th of Dhul Hijjah. It should be on your lips constantly — while walking, resting, ascending, and descending.

Labbayk Allahumma labbayk. Labbayk la shareeka laka labbayk. Innal-hamda wan-ni'mata laka wal-mulk. La shareeka lak.

"Here I am, O Allah, here I am. Here I am, You have no partner, here I am. Verily all praise, grace, and sovereignty belong to You. You have no partner." — Bukhari 1549, Muslim 1184

The great scholar Ibn al-Qayyim described the Talbiyah as a response to the call of Ibrahim (AS) when Allah commanded him to proclaim the pilgrimage to mankind (Quran 22:27). Every time you say "Labbayk," you are answering that ancient call.

Etiquette of the Talbiyah:

  • Men recite it aloud; women recite it softly
  • Repeat it after every prayer, when mounting a ride, and at changes of state (ascending, descending)
  • It is a Sunnah to recite it in groups, raising the voice together
  • Stop reciting when you begin Tawaf (for Umrah) or when you throw the first pebble on the 10th (for Hajj)

3. Duas at the Miqat & Entering Ihram

Before crossing the Miqat boundary, you enter the sacred state of Ihram. Here are the essential supplications for this moment:

Intention (Niyyah) for Hajj

Make your intention verbally as you approach the Miqat:

لَبَّيْكَ اللَّهُمَّ حَجًّا
Labbayk Allahumma Hajjan
"Here I am, O Allah, for Hajj." — Muslim 1218

If performing Hajj al-Tamattu (with Umrah first):

لَبَّيْكَ اللَّهُمَّ عُمْرَةً
Labbayk Allahumma 'Umratan
"Here I am, O Allah, for Umrah." — Muslim 1218

Dua After Entering Ihram

Allahumma inni ureedul-Hajja fa yassirhu li wa taqabbalhu minni
"O Allah, I intend to perform Hajj, so make it easy for me and accept it from me." — Reported practice of the Salaf

Stipulation Dua (Ishtiraat)

If you fear illness or an obstacle preventing you from completing Hajj, you may add this condition:

اللَّهُمَّ مَحِلِّي حَيْثُ حَبَسْتَنِي
Allahumma mahilli haythu habastani
"O Allah, my place of ending (Ihram) is wherever You prevent me." — Bukhari 5089, Muslim 1207

The Prophet (ﷺ) taught this to Duba'ah bint al-Zubayr when she was ill and wanted to perform Hajj. If something does prevent you, you may exit Ihram without penalty.

Dua When Entering Makkah

Allahumma hadha haramuka wa amnuka fa harrimni 'alan-nar wa ammini min 'adhabika yawma tab'athu 'ibadak, waj'alni min awliya'ika wa ahli ta'atik
"O Allah, this is Your sanctuary and security, so make me forbidden for the Fire and secure me from Your punishment on the Day You resurrect Your servants, and make me among Your allies and the people of Your obedience." — Reported by al-Bayhaqi

4. Duas for Tawaf (7 Circuits)

Tawaf is one of the most spiritually intense acts of Hajj — circling the House of Allah seven times in an unbroken flow of worship. There is no single fixed dua for each circuit; you are free to make any supplication you wish. However, these are the authentically narrated and recommended duas. For a detailed walkthrough of the Tawaf ritual itself, see our VR Kaaba Tawaf Guide.

At the Black Stone (Start of Each Circuit)

Touch or point toward the Black Stone and say:

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ، اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ
Bismillahi, Allahu Akbar
"In the name of Allah, Allah is the Greatest." — Reported by al-Bayhaqi

General Tawaf Dua

This comprehensive dua can be recited during any circuit:

سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ وَلَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَاللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ وَلَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ
SubhanAllahi walhamdu lillahi wa la ilaha illAllahu wAllahu Akbar, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah
"Glory be to Allah. All praise is for Allah. There is no god but Allah. Allah is the Greatest. There is no power nor strength except with Allah." — Ibn Majah

Between the Yemeni Corner and the Black Stone (Every Circuit)

This is a specifically narrated dua for the stretch between the Yemeni Corner (Rukn al-Yamani) and the Black Stone. The Prophet (ﷺ) would recite this in every circuit:

رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ
Rabbana atina fid-dunya hasanatan wa fil-akhirati hasanatan wa qina 'adhab an-nar
"Our Lord, give us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and save us from the punishment of the Fire." — Quran 2:201, Abu Dawud 1892

Dua at the Multazam

The Multazam is the area between the Black Stone and the door of the Kaaba. It is a place where dua is accepted. Press your chest, face, and palms against the wall and supplicate with deep sincerity:

اللَّهُمَّ يَا رَبَّ الْبَيْتِ الْعَتِيقِ أَعْتِقْ رِقَابَنَا وَرِقَابَ آبَائِنَا وَأُمَّهَاتِنَا وَأَبْنَائِنَا وَبَنَاتِنَا مِنَ النَّارِ
Allahumma ya Rabbal-baytil-'ateeq, a'tiq riqabana wa riqaba aba'ina wa ummahatina wa abna'ina wa banatina minan-nar
"O Allah, Lord of the Ancient House, free our necks and the necks of our fathers, mothers, sons, and daughters from the Fire." — Reported by al-Bayhaqi

Dua While Drinking Zamzam

After Tawaf, drink Zamzam water and make dua — the Prophet (ﷺ) said:

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا وَرِزْقًا وَاسِعًا وَشِفَاءً مِنْ كُلِّ دَاءٍ
Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman nafi'an wa rizqan wasi'an wa shifa'an min kulli da'
"O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, abundant provision, and a cure from every illness." — Reported by al-Daraqutni

The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "The water of Zamzam is for whatever purpose it is drunk for."Ibn Majah 3062. So make your most heartfelt dua while drinking it.

5. Dua at Maqam Ibrahim

After completing your seven circuits of Tawaf, proceed to the Station of Ibrahim (Maqam Ibrahim) and recite:

وَاتَّخِذُوا مِنْ مَقَامِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ مُصَلًّى
Wattakhidhu min maqami Ibrahima musalla
"And take the standing place of Ibrahim as a place of prayer." — Quran 2:125

Then pray two rak'ahs behind Maqam Ibrahim (or anywhere in the Haram if the area is crowded). In the first rak'ah, recite Surah al-Kafirun (109) after al-Fatihah; in the second, recite Surah al-Ikhlas (112).

After completing these two rak'ahs, make dua. This is a confirmed place of acceptance. Ask for everything that matters to you — your family, your akhirah, your community, the Ummah. The footprints of Ibrahim (AS) are preserved in the golden encasement before you — a reminder that the greatest of Allah's servants stood in this exact spot and called upon his Lord.

6. Duas for Sa'i Between Safa & Marwa

Sa'i commemorates Hajar's (AS) desperate search for water for her infant son Ismail — running seven times between the hills of Safa and Marwa. It is a ritual of trust, urgency, and reliance on Allah alone. For the complete ritual walkthrough, visit our Complete Hajj Guide.

Upon Approaching Safa (Beginning of Sa'i)

Innas-Safa wal-Marwata min sha'a'irillah
"Indeed, Safa and Marwa are among the symbols of Allah." — Quran 2:158

Then say: "Abda'u bima bada'Allahu bihi" — "I begin with what Allah began with." This is only said once, at the very start.

Dua at the Top of Safa (Facing the Kaaba)

Climb Safa until you can see the Kaaba, face it, raise your hands, and recite:

Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar.

"Allah is the Greatest (×3). There is no god but Allah alone, with no partner. His is the sovereignty and His is the praise, and He is able to do all things. There is no god but Allah alone. He fulfilled His promise, aided His servant, and defeated the confederates alone." — Muslim 1218

Repeat this dhikr three times, making personal dua between each repetition. The Prophet (ﷺ) would make lengthy supplication here.

Dua at Marwa

Upon reaching Marwa, face the Kaaba and repeat the exact same dhikr and dua as you did at Safa. The Prophet (ﷺ) made the same supplication at both hills.

Dua While Walking Between Safa and Marwa

There is no specific narrated dua for the walking portions. You are free to make any dua you wish, recite Quran, or engage in dhikr. Recommended supplications include:

Rabbighfir warham innaka antal-a'azzul-akram
"My Lord, forgive and have mercy. Indeed, You are the Most Mighty, the Most Generous." — Reported practice of the Salaf

7. Duas at Arafat — The Most Important Day

If there is one moment during Hajj that you must give absolutely everything, it is the standing at Arafat on the 9th of Dhul Hijjah. Hajj without Arafat is not Hajj. The Prophet (ﷺ) said:

"The best of dua is the dua on the Day of Arafat, and the best of what I and the prophets before me have said is:

لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ، لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ

La ilaha illAllahu wahdahu la shareeka lah, lahul-mulku wa lahul-hamdu wa huwa 'ala kulli shay'in Qadeer.

"There is no god but Allah alone, with no partner. His is the sovereignty and His is the praise, and He is able to do all things." — Tirmidhi 3585

What to Do at Arafat

  • Face the Qiblah, not the mountain of Jabal ar-Rahmah
  • Raise your hands and make dua continuously from after Dhuhr until Maghrib
  • Recite the dhikr above repeatedly between your personal duas
  • Make every dua you have — in any language. Read from your prepared list
  • Cry, plead, beg — this is the day Allah descends to the lowest heaven and boasts about you to the angels
  • Make dua for your parents (living and deceased), your children, your spouse, the sick, the oppressed, and the entire Ummah
  • Do not stop making dua until Maghrib — then depart to Muzdalifah

Recommended Duas for Arafat

In addition to the primary dhikr above, the following duas are powerfully recommended at Arafat:

اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ كَرِيمٌ تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي
Allahumma innaka 'Afuwwun Kareemun tuhibbul-'afwa fa'fu 'anni
"O Allah, You are the Pardoner, the Generous. You love to pardon, so pardon me." — Tirmidhi 3513
Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min 'adhabil-qabr, wa min 'adhabi Jahannam, wa min fitnatil-mahya wal-mamat, wa min fitnatil-masihid-Dajjal
"O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the punishment of the grave, from the punishment of Hellfire, from the trials of life and death, and from the trial of the False Messiah." — Bukhari 1377, Muslim 588
Allahumma ati nafsi taqwaha wa zakkiha Anta khayru man zakkaha, Anta waliyyuha wa mawlaha
"O Allah, grant my soul its piety and purify it — You are the best to purify it. You are its Guardian and Master." — Muslim 2722
Rabbana zalamna anfusana wa in lam taghfir lana wa tarhamna lanakoonanna minal-khasireen
"Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves. If You do not forgive us and have mercy upon us, we will surely be among the losers." — Quran 7:23

8. Duas at Muzdalifah

After sunset on the Day of Arafat, you proceed to Muzdalifah where you pray Maghrib and Isha combined (Isha shortened to two rak'ahs), collect pebbles for the stoning, and rest under the open sky. The key supplication time is after Fajr prayer until just before sunrise.

Dua at al-Mash'ar al-Haram

Allah says in the Quran:

فَإِذَا أَفَضْتُم مِّنْ عَرَفَاتٍ فَاذْكُرُوا اللَّهَ عِندَ الْمَشْعَرِ الْحَرَامِ وَاذْكُرُوهُ كَمَا هَدَاكُمْ
Fa idha afadtum min 'Arafatin fadhkurullaha 'indal-Mash'aril-Haram, wadhkuroohu kama hadakum
"And when you depart from Arafat, remember Allah at al-Mash'ar al-Haram. And remember Him as He has guided you." — Quran 2:198

The Prophet (ﷺ) stood at al-Mash'ar al-Haram, faced the Qiblah, and made dua, takbeer, tahleel, and dhikr until the light of dawn became very bright — then he departed before sunrise. (Muslim 1218)

This is a time to continue the momentum of Arafat. Your duas should carry the same desperation and hope:

"O Allah, as You have caused us to stand here and shown us this place, grant us success in remembering You as You have guided us, and forgive us and have mercy on us as You have promised us." — Reported practice; referenced in tafsir of Quran 2:198

9. Duas During Rami al-Jamarat

The stoning of the Jamarat begins on the 10th of Dhul Hijjah (Eid al-Adha) with the large pillar only, then continues on the 11th, 12th, and optionally 13th with all three pillars. For the complete stoning procedure, see our step-by-step guide.

With Each Pebble

Say Allahu Akbar as you throw each of the seven pebbles:

اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ
Allahu Akbar
"Allah is the Greatest."

After the Small Pillar (Jamrat al-Sughra)

After stoning the small pillar with seven pebbles, move to the right side, face the Qiblah, raise your hands, and make lengthy dua. The Prophet (ﷺ) would stand here for a long time supplicating. This is a confirmed Sunnah and a place of acceptance:

اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْهُ حَجًّا مَبْرُورًا وَسَعْيًا مَشْكُورًا وَذَنْبًا مَغْفُورًا
Allahummaj'alhu hajjan mabroran wa sa'yan mashkoran wa dhanban maghfora
"O Allah, make it an accepted Hajj, an effort that is appreciated, and a sin that is forgiven." — Reported by al-Hakim

After the Middle Pillar (Jamrat al-Wusta)

After stoning the middle pillar, again move to the left side, face the Qiblah, and make lengthy dua. Pour your heart out — these are confirmed stations for supplication.

After the Large Pillar (Jamrat al-Aqabah)

Do NOT stand and make dua after the large pillar. The Prophet (ﷺ) would stone it and leave immediately. This is specifically narrated — he did not make dua after this pillar. (Bukhari 1751)

10. General Duas for Your Hajj Journey

These supplications can be made at any time throughout your Hajj — while travelling, resting in your tent at Mina, or walking between sacred sites.

Dua for Leaving Home

Dua Upon Seeing the Kaaba for the First Time

The first sight of the Kaaba is a moment of overwhelming awe. Raise your hands and make the most heartfelt dua you have — this is a confirmed time of acceptance:

Allahumma zid hadhal-bayta tashreefan wa ta'dheeman wa takreeman wa mahabah, wa zid man sharrafahu wa karramahu mimman hajjahu awi'tamarahu tashreefan wa ta'dheeman wa takreeman wa birra
"O Allah, increase this House in honour, esteem, nobility, and reverence. And increase those who honour and ennoble it — of those who perform Hajj or Umrah — in honour, esteem, nobility, and righteousness." — Reported by al-Bayhaqi, al-Shafi'i

Dua for Guidance, Piety, and Self-Sufficiency

Rabbana taqabbal minna innaka Antas-Samee'ul-'Aleem, wa tub 'alayna innaka Antat-Tawwabur-Raheem
"Our Lord, accept from us. Indeed, You are the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing. And turn to us in mercy. Indeed, You are the Acceptor of Repentance, the Most Merciful." — Quran 2:127-128

Dua for Forgiveness and Mercy

Rabbighfir li warhamni wahdini wa 'afini warzuqni
"My Lord, forgive me, have mercy on me, guide me, grant me wellbeing, and provide for me." — Muslim 2697

The Master Dua for Forgiveness (Sayyid al-Istighfar)

"O Allah, You are my Lord. There is no god but You. You created me and I am Your servant. I hold to Your covenant and promise as best I can. I seek refuge in You from the evil of what I have done. I acknowledge Your blessings upon me and I acknowledge my sin. So forgive me, for none forgives sins but You." — Bukhari 6306

The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "Whoever says this during the day with firm belief in it and dies that day before evening, he will be among the people of Paradise. And whoever says it at night with firm belief and dies before morning, he will be among the people of Paradise."

11. Tips for Making Dua During Hajj

Making dua is both an art and an act of worship. These principles will help you maximise every supplication during your pilgrimage:

  1. Write your dua list before you travel. Sit down weeks before Hajj and write every single thing you want to ask Allah for — spiritual, worldly, for yourself, for others. Organise it by category: family, health, career, akhirah, Ummah. You will forget in the emotion of the moment. Carry the list with you everywhere.
  2. Begin with praise and salawat. The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "When any one of you makes dua, let him start by glorifying his Lord and praising Him, then let him send blessings upon the Prophet (ﷺ), then let him pray for whatever he wants." (Abu Dawud 1481). Start with "Alhamdulillahi Rabbil-'Alameen" and "Allahumma salli 'ala Muhammad."
  3. Make dua in any language. Use Arabic for the narrated duas, but pour your deepest, most personal requests out in your mother tongue. Allah understands every language. The most powerful dua is the one that comes from the deepest part of your heart.
  4. Face the Qiblah and raise your hands. While not obligatory, facing the direction of the Kaaba and raising your palms upwards is the Sunnah of the Prophet (ﷺ) and the etiquette of supplication.
  5. Be persistent — repeat each dua three times. The Prophet (ﷺ) would repeat his duas three times. (Muslim 1794). Don't rush. Linger on each request. Say it again. And again.
  6. Ask with certainty, not hesitation. The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "Call upon Allah while being certain of being answered, and know that Allah does not respond to a dua from a heedless, distracted heart." (Tirmidhi 3479). Believe that Allah is listening. Believe He will answer.
  7. Cry — and if tears don't come, try to feel the weight. Tears are a sign of a soft, sincere heart. If they don't flow naturally, try to feel the gravity of standing before your Creator — who created you, provides for you, and holds your entire fate in His hands.
  8. Don't limit your duas. Ask for this world and the next. Nothing is too grand and nothing is too small. The Prophet (ﷺ) encouraged us to ask even for a shoelace (Tirmidhi). Ask for your parents, your children, the sick, the oppressed, the struggling, and the entire Muslim Ummah around the world.
  9. Use the best times. Within Hajj, prioritize these golden windows: the last third of the night, between the adhan and iqamah, during rainfall, while fasting (Day of Arafat for non-pilgrims), and the hour on Friday before Maghrib.
  10. End with salawat upon the Prophet (ﷺ). Just as you began, close your dua by sending blessings upon the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ). This "sandwiches" your dua between two things that Allah always accepts — making it more likely your request in the middle will be answered too.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make dua in English (or my own language) during Hajj?

Yes, absolutely. For the specific narrated duas (like the Talbiyah or the Quran 2:201 dua between the Yemeni Corner and Black Stone), it is best to recite them in Arabic. But for your personal supplications, you may — and should — speak to Allah in whatever language allows you to express your deepest feelings. Allah understands all languages and He looks at your heart, not your tongue.

Do I need to memorise all these duas before Hajj?

Ideally, memorise the essential ones: the Talbiyah, the Quran 2:201 dua (between Yemeni Corner and Black Stone), and the Arafat dhikr. For the rest, write them down or save them on your phone. Many pilgrims carry a small dua booklet. You can also practise pronunciation in our VR Hajj experience which recites each dua at the correct location.

What if I forget a dua at a specific location?

Don't worry. There is no obligation to recite a specific dua at any location (except the Talbiyah and the intention for Ihram). You can make any dua at any time, and Allah hears you regardless of whether you recite the "correct" narrated dua. The narrated duas are recommended, not obligatory. Sincerity matters far more than specific wording.

Is there a dua that is guaranteed to be accepted during Hajj?

No dua has a "guarantee" in the absolute sense — Allah answers in His wisdom, which may come as giving you what you asked, averting a harm from you, or storing the reward for the Hereafter. However, the Prophet (ﷺ) indicated that the Day of Arafat is when dua is most powerfully answered, and that the pilgrim's dua is answered by Allah (Ibn Majah 2892). Give your best supplications on this day.

Should I make dua for other people during Hajj?

Yes — and this is strongly encouraged. The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "The dua of a Muslim for his brother in his absence is answered. At his head is an appointed angel. Every time he makes dua for his brother with good, the angel says: 'Ameen, and for you the same.'" (Muslim 2733). Make dua for your parents, your family, your teachers, and the Muslim Ummah. Many scholars advise gathering names and requests from loved ones before you travel — so you can present their needs to Allah at Arafat.
